Oh Navy...you're clean, classy and have incredible coverage. I stinkin' love painting with navy and it's my go-to color choice when I'm dealing with a piece of furniture that isn't speaking to me. There are SO many gorgeous navy colors on the paint market for you to choose from, but my...
When I saw this French provincial style chest of drawers in a second hand furniture store, I knew the piece was a great buy. French provincial pieces always sell well for me so I train my eyes to look for them whenever I'm out. When I got it home, I stripped and refinished the top using...
Nightstands are by far my quickest selling type of furniture! They trump buffets, dressers and side tables by far. So whenever I see a pair that I can redo, I snatch them up because I know I'll sell them easily. Over the years, I've created lots of different looks on nightstands from distressed to...
Oh boy, am I excited to share these nightstands with all of you today! There's so much to say about them so I'm going to dive right in. Let's start with where I got them. One of my fellow furniture painting vendors at Morgantown Market had these two nightstands in her booth upstairs....
Do you remember the two depression dressers that I picked up from a super sweet Instagram follower a few weeks ago? Whelp, the same seller also gave us a Thomasville chest of drawers. Trust me - it didn't look anything like this when I got it! As a matter of fact, it was...
The live painting demonstration at Homestead Studios went really well this weekend! In case you have no idea what I'm referring to, you can catch up here. My subject was this lovely piece: I bought it from a fellow vendor at Morgantown Market (for those who always wonder...
This weekend is a busy but very productive (and quite satisfying) one so far! There are several events taking place at my retail locations. I've got an exciting piece of business news to share with you and I scored some amazing project pieces from several sources. So let me give you a bit of an...
I'm not sure if I've ever counted up how many pieces of furniture that I've painted in the past 6 years or so, but a large majority of them have a very similar style - Depression Era. This era of furniture covers from 1920 - 1940 and has some characteristic features like routered details, veneer,...
My two depression era dressers have proven to be challenging pieces to refinish. I've struggled with both of these pieces throughout their makeovers. Every piece that I work on brings its own set of unique challenges to the table, and these little buggers were no different. The horizontal...
Have you ever stumbled across a piece of furniture and you weren't 100% sure what to do with it, but it was totally speaking to you and you felt like you had to take a chance and grab it? I just finished a piece that fell straight into that category. When I first stumbled across this piece, it was...
I've had a few mahogany pieces queued up that required a darker paint color to avoid bleed through. General Finishes Coastal Blue Milk Paint is my go-to paint choice when I have a piece that needs high coverage. I've used it on my last couple of projects and it was the perfect choice on...
On Monday, a friend of mine invited me over to her brand new home that she just purchased with her husband. As they're fixing it up, she generously gave me the chance to look at and purchase some furniture pieces that were in the house that they didn't want. Out of all the diamonds in...
Remember this rather orangish Victorian Eastlake style washstand I posted onInstagram a few weeks ago? If you don't, that's totally okay. I go through a lot of furniture pieces from one month to the next. At any rate, I'm happy to announce that it is now sporting a fresh new look thanks...
These end tables were a yard sale find from a few months ago. They had a smooth factory finish on them and a dated 1980's faux stain. Using General Finishes products, they are now looking much more neutral, coastal and updated to be loved again for years to come! If you follow my...
Every furniture person is drawn to a certain type of piece. Some people really love buffets while others gravitate towards dressers. I'm a washstand kind of girl. I'm drawn to them and I hone in on them whenever I'm at an antique store, auction or thrift shop. ...
Vintage nightstands are not easy pieces to locate for me. Vintage vanities, however, are never in short supply! So when I find myself in need of a pair ofnightstands, I often go searching for a vanity to split apart to make my own set of custom nightstands! Such was the...
This tall antique oak dresser was in the bunch of solid wood pieces that I bought that were suffering from cat urine odor. Aside from the strong odor, it was in great shape! It was very sturdy and just needed to be cleaned with Nature's Miracle Advanced Stain & Odor Remover. I wiped...
People often ask me where I find my pieces. The honest answer is "everywhere". I'm seriously not dodging the question and refusing to reveal my sources when people ask. It's the honest truth! I literally go everywhere - hit yard sales, auctions, thrift stores, the side of...
Happy 4th of July everyone! I hope you're enjoying celebrating the birth of our fabulous country here in the US. My family will be celebrating this coming weekend with a pool party, so I spent the day working on several projects and enjoyed the fact that Marc was home...
It's funny...when I typed out the title of this blog post, all I could think of were popovers and then I got hungry! The Pop Up Shop that I held at my home workshop this weekend is all finished and I wanted to take some time to show you what I had for sale and give you a recap of how the day...
